a strong anchor

Last weekend was our annual Cave Quest event, where we take kids to the California Lava Caves for an amazing educational scavenger hunt.

This adventure gives us a fun opportunity to spend quality time with the kids in our programs. I met one soft-spoken, kindhearted young man who came along at Hanby Middle School about a month ago. Robert loves the outdoors and loves to be around people. He's being raised by his grandmother and often finds himself just going through the motions of life. On our way to the lava tubes, we listened to music. One particular song came on called 'Fear Is A Liar.' As the song played, he said, “This is one of my favorite songs! It helps me when I feel alone.” After the scavenger hunt, we shared about Jesus' life. Robert looked very focused during the talk. I asked him later "So, what are your takeaways from the story?" Robert said, “I'm learning that Jesus is always with me even when I feel alone. I feel like I can trust Jesus because he wants to be a strong anchor for me when I get sad.”

The following week he came right up to me and told me how much fun he had. It's moments like these where kids, like Robert, open up and share their story that really makes a difference in their daily lives.  Thank you for bringing the Hope of Jesus to Robert!
