caught in a negative loop

Posted on by Martin Corder

While having coffee, with a Real Life Volunteer, I was reminded of the serious joy that comes while working with young people.

Our conversation turned to the struggles and problems young people face; lack of education, poor parenting, addictions, and relational poverty. We talked about our program’s strategy. We kept coming back to moments when the kids had success overcoming an obstacle. There was a look about them, something we couldn’t quite put our finger on. Then it HIT me, “It’s hope!" These kids are caught in a negative loop. They have no hope so, they don’t give their best effort, which leads to failure, and confirms their hopelessness to them and the world. As we continued, it became clear, the most important thing we can give is HOPE.
It doesn’t take special skills or a degree to impact this struggling generation of kids. All it takes is a little bit of time to hang out, offer a trusting friendship and share the Hope of Christ. I can’t express how amazing it is when you see that spark of hope in the eye of a hopeless young person. Come and experience the joy of bringing hope to the hopeless.
