Showing Kindness…

Posted on by Martin Corder

I met Shay a few months ago at one of our group gatherings. She was there with her boyfriend and their son Carter.

A couple months went by and I missed seeing Shay at Parent Life. But every time I went to pray for our young moms, Shay would come to my mind, so one day I decided to give her a call and invite her to lunch. To my surprise, she eagerly said she would love to come to lunch, so I picked her up later that week. As we sat and ate our teriyaki chicken and rice, Shay began to tell me her story. She has had epilepsy since she was a young girl and as a result, often has seizures. She told me that as a girl in school other kids would make fun of her, even acting out having a seizure in front of her to tease her. Her epilepsy combined with being shy by nature, she said friendships have always been harder for her to have and to keep. After I dropped Shay off from lunch I decided to send her a text and thank her for having lunch with me and sharing her story. She quickly texted me back and said, “I’m so thankful you called me! Thank you for lunch and for talking with me… and just showing me kindness!”

Kindness... I’ve thought about that word so much since. Everyone deserves kindness. Thank you for your generosity in supporting these young families. Your kindness has shown these young moms the love of Jesus and has given them new hope!
