Vera’s Joy and Laughter

Posted on by Martin Corder

We first met Vera, a mom of one of our teen parents, about 9 months ago...

We sat around her kitchen table with tears in our eyes discussing some hard circumstances surrounding her daughter. Today, Vera and the rest of her family find themselves in a time of their own hard circumstances. For about 3 months now, Vera and her family of 7 have been homeless... living in-and-out of different motels. As we talked with Vera about receiving a Thanksgiving box thru Rogue Valley YFC this year, she shared with us how much she would love one but had no place to cook the meal. That’s when the idea came to one of our directors at Parent Life to allow her house to be used as the place we could all come together with our families to cook and share a Thanksgiving meal. After a full weekend of shopping, prep work and cooking, our families, together with 4 generations in Vera’s family, shared our meal together. Later that evening Vera said to us, “This is the best day I’ve had in a long time. I haven’t felt anxious or stressed these couple of days, I haven’t worried about a thing.”

As we sat around the table that evening, I remembered back to the first time we sat here 9 months ago with Vera. I was thankful that this time we sat together as one big family full of joy and laughter. Thank you for being a part of this greater Parent Life family. Your generosity and support are impacting multiple generations in our valley with the light and love of Christ.
